Daedalus Fly-In Retreat Update!

Updated: Jun 14, 2022

Hi all!

It’s June, and that means it's time to open the request forms for the retreat on the Daedalus Fly-In website. Here is a direct link to the form:

The request form will open on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. EDT USA. The request form will be open for 1 month, at which time I will begin invoicing people.

We at Daedalus have been blessed by our community in that when we open a new project there is quite a bit of interest. Due to this fact, I expect many more requests than tickets (to answer that question, I have 75 spots). I will be choosing names from a queue using a random number generator if more than 75 requests come in, which is very likely. This seems to be the best way to ensure anyone can come, regardless of technological issues. (Numbers will be assigned according to order of request, but there is no benefit from being early on the list.)

The Fly-In will open Wednesday, March 1, 2023 with a welcoming dinner from 6-10 p.m. , followed by classes Thursday the 2nd through Saturday the 4th. There will also be a vendor market Friday and Saturday, with departure from the event Sunday morning the 5th of March, 2023.

The event is being hosted at the Lexington Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington, Kentucky. This is a great hotel with a spa and a PGA-rated golf course. I would like to request that you stay at the hotel. Rooms are single occupancy. To be as candid and honest as possible (and we all know honesty is the best policy, right?) I have a room block that must be filled in order for the retreat to go on to a second year. This is a community-building project and for that reason, it must be self-sufficient. The room rate is great ($145 USD per night). Please take advantage of it. Please email me with any questions: Rebecca@daedalusflyin.com

The cost of attendance is separate from the hotel fees. This retreat attendance fee is $600 USD. The price includes the welcoming dinner Wednesday, 3 classes over 3 days, a private lounge, a Friday and Saturday vendor market, nightly events, as well for after-hours fun.

On the Google request form there are class choices for your first, second, and third choices. For teachers this year we will have Jillian Moreno, Charan Sachar, Debbie Held, and James Perry. Please read up on our class offerings as there have been some minor changes. https://www.daedalusflyin.com/classes I will assign classes this year. (The second year will most likely be different.) Everyone will get 3 classes—one class each day of the retreat. My goal is to get everyone all 3 first-choice classes. However, this might not be possible, and we appreciate your understanding. Classes are 3 hours long and taught by hand-selected instructors.

Materials fees will be listed on the website and are not included in the price of the retreat. Fees must be paid in cash directly to the instructor at the beginning of class. An email will be sent to you with your class list once the schedule is complete, so you can prepare for the fee and tool requirements. You will not go into this blind; I promise.

And lastly, this will be a fully vaccinated event. I’m sorry if this upsets people, but it is necessary for everyone’s safety. I will allow doctor note exemptions which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, as everyone’s health is unique and so are their situations.

We strive to make this the most accessible event possible. Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding as we work through organizing our very first retreat! -Becca
